About All-Stars

Following the Spring recreational season, Rancho GSL will enter its championship All-Star season, running from early May into late June (and possibly into July).  

 

The All-Star program is a competitive program and is completely separate from our recreational and select programs. The recreational portion of our season is about instruction, learning the rules of the game, opportunities for every girl to play multiple positions and fun, whereas All Stars is about developing advanced skills, competing against the top teams in our area and instilling a winning attitude. 

 

While Select and All-Stars are very similar in their competitive nature, they are separate teams. A player’s participation in Select doesn’t determine their participation in All Stars. Also, if a player did not participate in Select, it does not prevent a placement on an All-Star team. Due to the significant difference between the programs, it is important to establish the expectations for the All-Star season.   

 

A very intense practice schedule will begin after the teams have been chosen.  Practices will be mandatory, and teams may practice 2-3 hours every day, including Sundays. The 8U division, while still a time and financial commitment, is less than the other divisions.  

 

It is mandatory that your player attends all tournament games. Tournaments will run every weekend from the middle of May until the end of June. Tournaments are preparatory for the South San Diego District Championship tournament.  All teams who enter the District Championship Tournament must accept berths if awarded to State (8U, 10U, 12U, 14U) and Regional (8U,10U, 12U) or National (10U, 12U, 14U) tournaments which would mean the commitment could run through August.  

 

Families will incur the majority of the expenses related to the All-Star experience. While sponsorship and fundraising opportunities do exist to offset the expenses, families should be prepared to spend approximately $400-$700 per player, throughout the season. Typical expenses include uniforms, helmets, tournament entry fees and other miscellaneous expenses.

Commitment

 

Players shall agree to the following expectations:

  • Attend all practice and games on time

  • Accept the role/position/contribution the Manager designated for you

  • Be willing to play positions that are unfamiliar to you

  • Demonstrate a positive and supportive attitude to your teammates

  • Recognize that the team is more important than one player.

 

Parents shall agree to the following expectations:

  • Support the coaches and players

  • Consider the collective success of the team a beneficial and rewarding experience

  • Do not approach coaches or managers during warm-up, games, or practices to discuss playing time, positions, batting order, etc.  Concerns must be addressed off of the field at a mutually agreed upon time. 

  • Playing time, positioning, and batting order are NOT guaranteed and may not be equal.  There is a possibility that some players may not play in a game, as this is a completive All-Star environment.

  • Players and parents will be asked to participate in volunteer and fundraising efforts

  • May 16th - 18th Corky Russell Classic Tournament

  • May 24th - 26th Cardiff By The Sea Tournament

  • May 30th- June 1st Peninsula Cool Breeze Tournament

  • June 6th - 8th Poway Summer Heat Tournament

  • June 13th - 15th Navajo SD Summer Sizzle Tournament

  • June 13th - 15th “C” South San Diego District Tournament at Santee

  • June 20th - 22nd “B” South San Diego District Tournament at Santee

  • June 27th - 29th USA Softball Southern CA “C” State Tournament at Lancaster

  • July 3th - 6th USA Softball Southern CA “B” State Tournament at Irvine, CA

  • July 11th - 13th  USA Softball Regionals Tournament at San Diego (“C” 8U, 10U, & 12U)

  • July 22nd - July 27th USA Softball Western Nationals “B” 10U (Roseville, CA) & 12U (Moorpark, CA)

8U THUNDER 2024

The 8U Thunder team has had an amazing All-Star season. Being mainly all first year All-Stars, this team was fierce. 4 Tournament Championships and a District Championship is something to be very proud of! We look forward to seeing these ladies in the future!

12U THUNDER 2024

Our 12U Thunder All-Stars are still going strong. With their last appearance at the State Regional Tournament in San Diego July 18-21. These ladies have battled back from deficits numerous times to take the lead. Congrats on all your sucess!

2023 8U and 10U All-Stars

 

8U Thunder All-Stars were UC Del Sol Champions, Corkey Russell Classic Champions and Scripps Ranch Invitational Champions.  The team finished 5th at the South San Diego "B" Disctrict Championships.

 

10U Thunder All-Stars were UC Del Sol Champions, Corkey Russell Classic Champions and Scripps Ranch Invitational Champions.  They went on to be finalists at the South San Diego "C" District Championships, third place finishers at the Southern California "C" State Championship, and finished top 24 at USA Softball Western 10U B National Championships.
