Select

WHAT IS "SELECT"?

SPRING SELECT PROGRAM

Rancho GSL Thunder is part of the “Select” program designed by USA Softball to challenge high-performing recreational players to practice and play at a more competitive level. If chosen for a position on a team, players will meet for multiple practices and games in January and on Sundays in February and March, in addition to your player’s Spring Rancho GSL team.

If your daughter will be registered to play in the upcoming Rec season, she is eligible to tryout for Select.

Participation on the 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U Select teams requires additional costs, and are dependent upon tournaments entered and games played. Select teams may travel to tournaments out of county. All fees are the responsibility of the individual parent/player.

Select is not covered in registration fees.

Selecting "REC Select" on your player's Spring Registration form does not guarantee placement on the Spring Select team. Your player will need to attend try-outs and will be contacted by the Select Manager if she has been chosen to play on the Select team in addition to a Spring REC team.

There are additional costs assosciated with the Select Program. In the Spring, players will be responsble for jersey and umpire fees for friendlies and tournaments. Friendlies are doubleheaders played on Sundays in addition to REC games.

If chosen to join a select team, it will be in addition to your daughter's respective recreational commitment during the spring season. Currently, select teams are available for 8U, 10U, and 12U player divisions. To be considered for select team participation, players and parents must commit to the requirements outlined below:

  • Select teams require an additional 1 day of practice/play per week. The additional day of play will be determined by the team’s manager.
  • Practice/Play must end on April 1st, 2026.
  • A select team may not have more than four travel ball players on a team.
  • A player must participate in no less than 75% of her recreational games to maintain eligibility for the select program.
  • Participation in the select program DOES NOT GUARANTEE your daughter will be selected and/or play on an all-star team.

***NEW RULE FOR 2025***

Any player who plans on playing SELECT must stop any and all Travel ball activities as of January 1st 2025 to be eligible for the All-Star season. Activities include practices, games, workouts and tryouts.

Select players MUST adhere to the USA Softball of Southern California Rules & Regulations.

FINAL DETAILS FOR THE SPRING SELECT SEASON ARE PENDING COORDINATION WITH THE SPRING SELECT FEDERATION.

FALL SELECT PROGRAM

Rancho GSL has aligned with other leagues in opening up a Select program during the Fall season. The Select program will run the entire length of the Fall season and schedules are aligned with REC games. Players will play solely on the Select team through the Fall against other Select teams from other leagues. This differs from Spring Select play. The REC program will still be run in parallel, however, players will play on either a REC or a Select team and not both, this applies for the Fall season only.
